The Cats and the Fiddle Southeast Louisiana

Notes:
The music on Hey Diddle Diddle, including
five original compositions, was recorded in
the heart of Sabine Bluegrass territory -
Elton & Shirley Brindley's front room in
Starks, Louisiana. The audio was
captured, sans engineer, on a good Sears
and Roebuck reel-to-reel recorder, foot
operated. Don't confuse Sears' "good" with
their "better" and "best".
Hey Diddle Diddle was released as an LP
in 1975, and received considerable air-play.
The infamous DJ and social commentarian
Gordon Baxter used Elton's Chucklehead
Stomp as his theme song on KLVI in
Beaumont Texas, up until he was fired, and
then on the radio station in Jasper.
By the way, that's Ellis doing the vocals on
Champagne and Orange Texas banjoist
David Odegar on Foggy Mountain
Breakdown. Buddy Burger played bass,
while Elsie Burger added just a touch of
piano rhythm, and some class, to several
numbers.
The Cats still reside in or near Starks and
each enjoys the high community stature
always accorded great fiddlers in
Louisiana. Ellis can often be found at the
monthly picking at Ragley La. Clayton can
often be found at the VFW. Eric doesn't get
out much any more. Elton, of course, has
attained additional fame as fiddler with the
elusive bluegrass band Crabgrass.
Hey Diddle Diddle was carefully
transformed from LP to CD by Huey
Buxton'sSound Stage Recording Studios in
Vidor.
